Hi everyone...today I thought I would help you understand some of the crochet abbreviations used in patterns. Sometimes it can be difficult to understand them, especially if your new to crochet! St = stitch Sts = stitches Sc = single crochet DC= double crochet Tbr / trb = treble crochet SL st = slip stitch CH = chain required amount of stitches. Yrn = yarn over Dc2tog = double crochet two together Sc2tog = single crochet two together In some of my other posts I have gone in to more detail about each individual stitch and there will be more coming soon!

The next step after making a slip knot is to make a foundation chain. This basically means this chain is the number of stitches required to start the pattern. Step one: Using your left hand hold the slip knot at the bottom of the hook. Step two: Yarn over and pull yarn through loop. (You have just made a chain) You keep repeating step two until you have the required amount of chain stitches.

Let's start right at the beginning...... If you want to crochet the first step is to learn how to make a slip knot! You will need: Yarn Crochet hook of any size or one required for the pattern you are making. I am writing this for a right handed person but if your left handed do the exact same thing on your right hand if you find it easier. Step one: Place your left hand sideways, Using your right hand place yarn over your index finger and middle finger. Step two: Wrap yarn around those fingers once. Step three: Pick up lower loop and place it over the top loop twice. Step four: Place hook through lower loop and pull the yarn gently, you have just made a slip knot!

A while ago I made a basic elastic skirt, I then decided that they were quick and easy to make so why not make some more that I will eventually put on my etsy shop when updated. The trouble was I couldn't find any measurements for babies waists at different ages. Here is a guide to standard waist measurements for babies: 0-3 months  16" (inches) 3-6 months  17" 6-12 months 17-18" 18 months  18.5" 2 years.  19" 3 years.  20" Please remember that these are basic standard measurements that most clothing is made to, but every child is different some are smaller others are taller! Understanding american and English crochet terms! When I first started learning to crochet I was keen to pop to the nearest bookshop to purchase as many books as I could find! I then rushed home and started crocheting but with no success, I knew I was holding the yarn correctly, so the tension was correct (thanks to many videos watched on YouTube). It turns out there are different terms for stitches in american and English, I seem to crochet better using american terms, so here is some info about it! American stitches.           English stitches Single crochet.        =      Double crochet Place hook through stitch, yarn over, pull through loop on hook. Double crochet.      =      Treble crochet Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over, pull yarn over again, pull through two loops, yarn over again and pull through remaining loops on hook.
